Sometimes one hour a week isn't enough. Our 6-Hour Marriage Intensive provides couples with dedicated time to slow down, address challenges, and strengthen their relationship in a supportive, focused environment.

Using an integrated approach that combines the Gottman Method and Internal Family Systems (IFS), we help couples improve communication, understand recurring patterns, rebuild trust, deepen emotional and physical intimacy, and develop practical tools for lasting connection.

Each intensive is tailored to your relationship and may focus on:

  • Strengthening communication

  • Managing conflict more effectively

  • Rebuilding trust

  • Deepening emotional and physical intimacy

  • Understanding each partner's needs and "parts"Creating a shared vision for the future

Marriage Intensives at the Self-Leadership Center of Oklahoma provide couples with the time and space to slow down, understand what is happening in their relationship, and work on the patterns that get in the way. Instead of trying to fit everything into a weekly therapy hour, an intensive offers uninterrupted time to delve beneath the conflict, comprehend the hurts and reactions each person brings into the relationship, and begin working toward real change. An Integrative Approach Our marriage intensives draw from three complementary approaches: The Gottman Method offers couples practical, research-based tools for understanding conflict, communication, friendship, intimacy, and repair. Internal Family Systems (IFS) each person better understand the parts of themselves that show up in the relationship especially those that feel hurt, afraid, protective, or overwhelmed. Instead of focusing on "Who's the problem?", we can begin asking, " happening inside each of us, and what's happening between us?" Intimacy from the Inside Out (IFIO) incorporates IFS into couples therapy, helping partners recognize their cycles, communicate what lies beneath their reactions, work through relational injuries, and build greater emotional connection.

The goal isn't simply to help couples argue better; it's to understand the deeply enough that something different becomes possible. This includes a pre-intensive assessment and relationship history to tailor the intensive to your needs. During the intensive, your time may involve Gottman, IFS and IFIO informed therapeutic work, understanding your relationship cycle and patterns, exploring the emotions and protective responses underneath conflict, working through relational injuries and disconnection, practicing new ways of communicating and responding to one another, and identifying practical ways to continue the work at home. You'll also receive resources to help you continue what you've started, along with a follow-up session to process and integrate the work after the.

A Different Kind of Space for Your Marriage

Marriage Intensives aren't about deciding who is right and who is wrong. They're about slowing down enough to understand how two people who love or once loved each other became caught in a painful pattern. Sometimes couples have been having the same fight for years, while others have stopped fighting altogether and feel disconnected. There may also be a betrayal or another significant injury that has altered the relationship. Whatever brings you in, the intensive creates the space to stop reacting long enough to understand what’s really happening and to begin finding a different way forward. Self-Leadership Center of Oklahoma O City, Oklahoma Marriage Intensives are scheduled following an initial consultation to determine appropriateness, goals, and the recommended length and therapist.

Relationship Intensives

Sometimes a traditional 50-minute therapy session simply isn’t enough time to get to the heart of what is happening in a relationship. Relationship Intensives give couples dedicated, uninterrupted time to slow down, understand their patterns, work through difficult issues, and begin creating meaningful change.

Which Intensive Is Right for Us?

Half-Day — Focus & Reset

A good fit for couples who want focused time to work on a specific concern, such as communication, recurring conflict, boundaries, intimacy, parenting, or reconnecting after a difficult season.

A half-day intensive allows us to identify the pattern, better understand what is happening underneath it, and begin practicing healthier ways of responding to one another.

Full-Day — Relationship Intensive

A full day gives us more time to understand your relationship as a whole rather than focusing on just one issue.

We’ll explore patterns of conflict, the emotions underneath those patterns, protective responses, communication, connection, and opportunities for repair. Couples will also have time to practice new ways of communicating and responding to one another during the intensive.

Two-Day — Repair & Reconnection

This format may be helpful for couples experiencing longstanding conflict, significant disconnection, betrayal, relational injuries, or patterns that have been difficult to change.

The additional time allows us to move beyond simply identifying the problem. We can spend more time understanding how these patterns developed, processing difficult experiences, working toward repair, and helping each partner experience the relationship differently.

Three-Day — Relationship Restoration

Our most comprehensive intensive provides couples with extended time to work through deeper or more complicated relationship concerns.

Over three days, we can explore your relationship history, identify patterns that have developed over time, work through deeper wounds, strengthen communication and emotional connection, practice new ways of relating, and develop a plan for moving forward.

What to Expect

Before a full-day or multi-day intensive, we’ll spend time getting to know you and your relationship. We want to understand what brings you in, your relationship history, the challenges you are currently facing, and what you hope will be different after the intensive.

During the intensive, the focus is not simply on talking about what is wrong. We’ll help you slow down the patterns that keep creating conflict or disconnection, understand what is happening underneath them, and practice new ways of communicating and connecting.

Our goal is for you to leave with a clearer understanding of your relationship, practical tools you can continue using at home, and a plan for continuing the work after your intensive.
